The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 does require you, if you have 5 or more people onsite to employ a competent person to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment to assess your need for extinguishers.
In having the right extinguishers onsite you have the assurance that should a fire ever break out and you were asked to prove by the authorities you had done everything in your power to prevent it. The Fire Risk Assessment coupled with proof of the fire prevention measures you have undertaken would be critical evidence.
